Description
Human Glomerular Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HGMECs) are highly specialized cells that line the luminal surface of glomerular capillaries within the kidney. They form the innermost layer of the glomerular filtration barrier and play a critical role in regulating blood filtration, vasomotor tone, hemostasis, and leukocyte trafficking.
HGMECs are isolated from human kidney cortical tissue typically from decapsulated glomeruli and are cryopreserved at early passage ( P1) for experimental use.

CELL CHARACTERISTICS
-Functional Properties
* HGMECs express bioactive molecules to modulate the local milieu, including vasoactive factors, thrombotic regulators, and inflammatory modulators.
* They respond to TNF- stimulation by upregulating E-selectin and P-selectin expression.
* They take up fluorescently labeled DiI-Ac-LDL (acetylated low-density lipoprotein), a classic functional test for endothelial cell identity.
* They express angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity.
* They participate in the innate immune response, acting as noncanonical immune cells capable of cytokine production.
-Isolation & Cell Culture:
* HGMECs are isolated from human kidney cortex through glomerular isolation, followed by digestion and purification.
* Purification is typically performed by CD31-positive selection to obtain a pure endothelial population.
* Cells are cryopreserved at passage 0 or 1, with each vial typically containing 5 × 10 cells.
